Classic tailoring meets an early 1900’s quilt and features a slightly puffed sleeve for the right balance of sass.  This lightweight jacket is expertly quilted with primitive shirtings, indigos, and madras prints in a nine patch block.  

Expertly upcycled by Ann of Redux Vintage, she boasts symmetrical front pockets, and is finished with a contrasting striped binding in navy and white.

The Blazing Star block is considered the crown jewel of our American quilting heritage.  It has been expertly pieced and hand quilted “in the ditch.”

The fabrics in the original quilt are baffling when it comes to age dating.  The monochromatic black & white pattern sports tiny vermicular tracks dotted with geometrical beats in red & black, common in the late 1880’s.  Whether these fabrics are reproduction or original is unknown.  The reds, checks, and indigos are humble, utilitarian antique cotton, the kind of fabric frequently used in 19th-century quilts.

Raglan sleeve

Made from a late 1800’s hand-pieced and hand-quilted patchwork quilt, this upcycled chore coat is replete with indigos,  shirting fabrics, and calicos.  It’s a medium/heavy weight jacket to keep the winter chill away.  

Take a peak at that Baptist fan quilting!  And no, those aren’t bugs you’re seeing in the batting.  Those are cotton burrs, remnants of hand-carded batting customarily used before batting was mass manufactured.
